How to grow a beard (to the best of your ability)

Updated: Apr 2

Think about growing a beard as a journey rather than a destination. It takes time, patience, and genetics. We acknowledge that some men are not able to grow a full beard - and that’s ok. If this is you, accept who you are and rock your own beard -or beardless- style. Being confident in who you are is sexy.

If you are facially furred, stop shaving and let your hair do its thing. On average, human hair grows about ½ inch per month. And, at any point, a random number of hairs will be in one of three stages: growth, rest, or preparing to shed. At this rate, many beards will begin to fill in after six to eight weeks. Regardless, the best way to grow a beard is to avoid the shave and refrain from trimming until you're a few months in. At that point, give yourself a pat on the back and visit a barber.

Note: if in a global pandemic, visiting a barber will be unlikely. See our post on tips for grooming your beard when the barber can’t do it for you.

In the meantime, if you experience itchiness, dry skin, or course hair on your beard growing journey:

· Use a beard oil to moisturize your skin, soften your beard, and tame fly away hairs.

· Add a beard balm to lock in moisture and provide styling hold.

· Exfoliate with a beard brush.

· Draw oils through your fur with a beard comb.

Finally, we are frequently asked whether our products promote beard growth. We are sorry to say they do not. And while there are many products on the market that claim to do so, we don’t think so.

To unlock your bearded potential, stop shaving and take care of yourself. Try reducing stress, eating a healthy diet, getting plenty of sleep, not smoking, and taking care of your skin by keeping it clean and moisturized. You might also take up a hobby that the ladies will admire – like yodeling or whittling, riding a motorcycle, or wearing a good hat.
